GSI ITALIA ADVANCED HEALTH TRAINING FRONT IN ETHIOPIA
Update of 20th May 2019
GSI ITALIA OPENS THE COLLABORATION WITH THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF ADDIS ABABA
The mission of GSI Italia doctors and paramedics in the Ethiopian capital returned to Italy. The political meetings were important in addition to the training course for the staff of St Paul’s Hospital and Gondar University. Silvano Lolli, the head of the mission, met Yakob Seman, General Director of the Ministry of Health. He also met Laura Porcellato, officer of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and Pietro Panarello of the Embassy of Italy in Addis Ababa. The meeting with the Cardinal Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, bishop of Addis Ababa and president of the Ethiopian Episcopal Conference, was important for the development of the activity of GSI Italia. Matter of discussion: the collaboration of the Association in teaching and clinical training within the Catholic University, which has in its structure a faculty of medicine and a connected hospital. The meeting took place in the utmost cordiality and in the bishop’s declared interest in laying the foundations for a fruitful activity of GSI Italia in the Catholic University starting from the next academic year.
A further meeting is scheduled in the middle of June during the mission that Dr. Francesco Panella, primary gynecologist, will do at the University of Gondar for the evaluation of the microscopic skills learned in Italy by GSI Italia’s guest doctors in the period January-March 2019.
At the next meeting in June we will start planning the plan of sustainable training interventions by GSI Italia in Addis Ababa with the Cardinal and the university medical colleagues.
3rd May 2019
From 6 to 17 May a large team of Italian experts will initiate the change with a training course to the doctors and paramedics involved in the gynecological care process in hospitals.
The program is part of the agreement signed in October 2018 between GSI Italia, the Gondar University, the St Paul’s Millennium Medical College which is the largest hospital in the capital and the Ethiopian Minister of Health.
The Italian team operating at St Paul’s Hospital is of excellent quality: Marco Franceschini, Sergio Stecchi, Silvano Lolli, Alessandra Pasqui and Patrizia Menicocci.
GSI Italia wishes a good work to all of them and many thanks for the generous availability to our Association and to the Ethiopian staff of Ethiopian hospitals.
