GSI ITALIA AMBULANCES FOR THE ROADS OF AFRICA
GSI Italia’s healthcare activity continues in the African continent in hospitals and treatment centers as well as in the streets of megacities such as Addis Ababa. The image of the two ambulances refers to this city, operating in the Ethiopian capital as an emergency room of St. Paul Hospital and evidence of the commitment of our association alongside local public health.
In September the second training program for Ethiopian doctors and paramedics will start: they will come from Gondar, the second Ethiopian city and seat of the university with which GSI Italia signed formal agreements for a collaboration program with the participation of the University Federico II of Naples. The Perugia health company will take care of the first qualification and retraining program for Ethiopian guests free of charge, in strategic sectors of medicine such as screening, diagnosis and treatment of gynecological cancers and post-traumatic orthopedic and vascular rehabilitation.
A first course had already been held in the pre-covid era and ended with the setting up of an analysis and diagnosis laboratory, purchased and made available by GSI Italia. The tribal war against the government army further prevented, after the acute phase of the pandemic, the launch of the program for the insecurity that accompanied the armed struggle and also involved the Gondar area.
Instead, the image of boys and girls dancing in front of the ambulance came to us from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Street children are at the heart of the Association’s commitment in the country and the health sector is an important part of it. In preparation for the end of the year our surgical mission for corrective orthopedic interventions for congenital and acquired physical handicaps.
