Project starting mission for street children of Kinshasa
The mission of GSI Italia begins on the 13thof February. On the 14th we enter in the Kinshasa area of civilian massacre where our partner in the years, CHERO, has its offices, where I was interested in visiting the little Gloria, probably afflicted by a spine illness and I’m considering to transfer her to Italy for surgery. We enter so unprepared into a militarized area, placing ourselves and our Congolese partner in an obvious alarm. Two dead for the soldiers after the guerrilla war, a dozen for the locals. Fortunately, we can enter and go out from the shantytown without being stopped.
On February 18, the Grand Séminaire de Malole at Kananga is sacked in the province of Central Kasai and it’s the first time of an attack to the Catholic Church. It will not be the last.
We are so on February 19, the day we leave. Going to the airport, we visit the nuns of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, where we meet refugees from the church of San Domenico, internally destroyed by a violent mass in civilian clothes. All actions that Cardinal Mosengwo, archbishop of Kinshasa, denounced, are the clear attempt to “discourage bishops from their mission.” Arriving at the airport we receive unexpectedly a video that we discover after being a massacre on unarmed people.
The government spokesman and the interior minister will speak of a fake. The Foreign Minister of an excessive attempt of strength by military forces.
